Prevent A Shoulder Injury With These Tips

Published on August 15th, 2019

Most activities you participate in involve moving your shoulder—whether you’re lifting, reaching, or throwing an object. Having a great range of motion in your shoulder is beneficial to your daily routines, but an injury to this joint can be frustrating. As your orthopedic surgeon serving Elgin, here are some tips to prevent shoulder injuries.

Listen To Your Body

If you are an active person and you begin to feel your shoulder getting sore, don’t ignore it. Make an appointment with our office because ignoring the pain could make things worse.

Stay In Shape

Make sure you are staying healthy and keeping your body in good physical shape with regular exercise and a good diet. Additionally, warm-up before you work out and start slowly to get into the swing of whichever exercise you are doing. Never lift too much as it can strain your shoulders.

Be Aware At Work

Whether you are at a desk or working in the field, make sure you don’t injure yourself on the job. Use good posture when you’re sitting or standing, and move around and stretch every hour for a couple of minutes. If you have a desk job, make sure your desk and chair are set up comfortably so you can use your computer without straining your upper body.

Many shoulder injuries can be fixed without surgery, but when you are doing everything you can to avoid injury in the first place, you’ll feel better. However, if you think you strained your shoulder, make an appointment with our orthopedic surgeon serving Elgin today, and we will be happy to help you!
