Foods For Joint Health

At Gitelis Orthopedics, we believe in taking actionable non-invasive steps to help reduce and heal pain before committing to surgery. Your diet plays a huge role in how your body feels and functions. Incorporate this list of foods into your diet to help limit inflammation and support joint health.

Fatty Fish

Fatty fish such as salmon, trout, and mackerel are packed with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D. These omega-3 acids have shown to have anti-inflammatory effects on the body, which in turn helps decrease joint pain and morning stiffness. Vitamin D, on the other hand, can help prevent deficiency. Our orthopedic surgeon in Schaumburg, recommends eating fish at least once a week.

A diet full of fruits and vegetables has shown to lead to a decrease in inflammation in the body. In particular spinach and other leafy vegetables and filled with nutrients and antioxidants that relieve inflammation and help fight disease.

Much like spinach, berries such as blueberries and cherries are jam-packed with antioxidants, minerals and vitamins that contribute to a decrease of inflammation. Berries are especially rich in the antioxidant quercetin which has been shown to block inflammation associated with arthritis.

While diet alone won’t fix your joint problems, these joint supporting foods along with healthy exercise and treatments from your orthopedic surgeon in Schaumburg will help keep your body in better shape.
